Bryan MacDonald was born and raised in Santa Barbara and graduated from Santa Barbara High School.  After graduation his family moved to the Ventura County area and Bryan started a job with the Oxnard Police Department as a Police Cadet (non-sworn position) and attended Ventura Community College studying Criminal Justice.  He moved to the Long Beach area to continue his education at California State University Long Beach and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice.  After college he was hired by the Oxnard Police Department in August of 1977 and attended the Ventura County Criminal Justice Training Center in Camarillo.  Upon graduation from the academy, he was assigned to field training with the police department and spent 29 years working as a sworn officer, retiring at the rank of Assistant Chief in June of 2006. Bryan was also an adjunct professor at Ventura Community College, teaching in the Criminal Justice Program for approximately 35 years.  During his career he continued his education obtaining a Master of Public Administration Degree from California State University Northridge and a Juris Doctor Degree from Ventura College of Law. 

 

Bryan and his wife, Lorraine, were married in August of 1985 and have lived in Oxnard the entire time.  Bryan has been active in the Oxnard Community serving as a volunteer with the Gold Coast Chapter of the American Cancer Society.  He also served on the Elite Theatre Board, the Salsa Festival Committee, and currently serves on the Oxnard Convention and Visitors’ Bureau, the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner Board of Directors (LOSSAN), the Gold Coast Transit District Board, and the Ventura County Transportation Commission, in addition to serving on many other boards. 

 

Bryan was first elected to the Oxnard City Council in November of 2008 and took office in December of that year.  He is finishing his fourth term as a councilmember with the City of Oxnard this year.
